World premiere of production-ready Toyota iQ at Geneva

14 February 2008

First shown as a concept car at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the Toyota iQ is appearing for the first time as a market-ready design at the Geneva Motor Show. The cool-looking iQ measures less than three metres long, and it can carry three people plus a child or luggage (we assume the child doesn’t go in the boot with the luggage). Production will start towards the end of this year.

Toyota is also showing another new car, the not-so-cool-looking Urban Cruiser. This is aimed at taking sales in the growing small sports utility vehicle segment and promises low fuel consumption and emissions from an ‘urban 4x4’ (a strange but increasingly popular concept).

In addition, Toyota will display a Plug-in Hybrid prototype and two concept cars: the Toyota 1/X Plug-in Hybrid concept in combination with Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) technology, and the i-Real personal mobility concept.
