Mitsubishi confirm prices for ASX
Following the continuing success of the Nissan Qashqai, Mitsubishi are the latest manufacturer to enter the compact crossover market with its ASX model. Mitsubishi are hoping to steal customers through a combination of rugged looks, keen pricing and efficient engines.
At launch the Mitsubishi ASX will be available with either a 1.6 litre petrol or a 1.8 litre diesel engine, the latter is available in either two or four wheel drive. Unusually it is the petrol engine which delivers the lowest CO2 emissions with a highly creditable 135 g/km thanks to a combined fuel economy of 47.1 mpg.
The diesel engine is the first in the world to use variable valve timing and produces a healthy 148 bhp as a result. In two wheel drive trim it achieves 51.4 mpg (145 g/km) or 49.6 mpg with four wheel drive (150 g/km). By comparison the two wheel drive 2.0 litre diesel Qashqai produces 150 bhp and manages 44.1 mpg (167 g/km) whilst the four wheel drive model emits 177 g/km (42.1 mpg).
All ASX models come with automatic Stop & Go, electric power steering, low rolling resistance tyres, regenerative brakes (Generation Control System), low viscosity oil, LED lighting and incoporate weight reduction measures. Up to seven airbags, whiplash reducing seats and a full suite of electronic driver aids enable a 5 star Euro NCAP rating.
Available from 1st July two wheel drive models will cost between £14,999 and £20,549 whilst two four wheel drive variants are available for either £20,049 or £22,049.
