MIA Low Carbon Motorsport Conference 2012
Lola Group and Drayson Racing Technologies (DRT) have announced that they will launch their new Lola-Drayson B12/69EV all-electric prototype racing car at the 6th MIA International Low Carbon Conference at Autosport International on Wednesday 11 January 2012.
Drayson Racing Technologies and Lola Group are the official title hosts for the conference. Together with the car, their showcase will include their technical partners to build the all-electric LMP (Le Mans Prototype) car.
Robin Brundle, Managing Director of Lola Group commented, "Lola are pleased to be present at the 2012 MIA Low Carbon Racing Conference event and delighted to have such a major presence with the unveiling of the all-electric powered Lola-Drayson B12/69EV. This is a technology showcase between Lola and Drayson Racing Technologies and one that has also been designed for lap attacks and electric vehicle land speed records. This innovative new project will evidence several new technologies with a variety of well known technical suppliers, all with the same objective which is to show that zero carbon, clean racing can be fast and exciting whilst offering a stimulating engineering challenge."
Drayson Racing Technologies LLP is a research & development business based in the heart of the UK’s world-leading motorsport industry at Kidlington, near Oxford. Paul Drayson, a former biotechnology entrepreneur and the UK Minister for Science and Innovation in the previous government, formed Drayson Racing Technologies LLP with his wife, Elspeth, to act as a racing laboratory to pioneer the development of green technologies in the challenging environment of motor racing. Since then Drayson Racing has achieved a number of notable firsts racing second-generation biofuels and has latterly focused on the emerging field of electric racing.
In its 53rd year of business, Lola is one of the longest established and most successful designers and constructors of racing cars in the world, keeping itself at the forefront of design and technology by investing in state of the art facilities including Computational Fluid Dynamics, Finite Element Analysis, a 50% scale wind tunnel and a 7 post aerodynamic suspension and chassis set up rig. The company is equipped and has the skills to carry out any major motorsport programmes for a manufacturer from F1 through every category of motorsport.
Motorsport is being used more and more as the showcase for low carbon technologies and development. Electric racing is booming from events ranging from the TTXGP and the eGrandPrix to the Electric Vehicle Cup presenting the world's first 'green' motor racing series.
The 6th International Low Carbon Racing Conference is Europe’s leading conference for Low Carbon Racing and will include a packed programme of panel discussions between key influencers, an exhibition to showcase real vehicles, concepts and prototypes - all demonstrating race-proven and low carbon advances made by the high performance engineering community. The event will close with the UKTI International Welcome Reception to the Autosport International Show which takes place from 12th to 15th January 2012.
Speakers at the event will include:
• Lord Drayson, former Minister for Science and Innovation and Managing Partner of Drayson Racing Technologies
