Mazda CX-5

The new Mazda CX-5 compact crossover will be the first of Mazda’s ‘new generation’ of vehicles using SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY, and it promises sub-120g/km CO₂ emissions.

SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY includes all-new Mazda petrol and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, and new bodies and chassis.

The engine line-up for the European specification CX-5 will include Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G 2.0 petrol engine and SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine, which will be available in Standard Power and High Power versions.

Each engine has a compression ratio of 14:1 for improved efficiency. Mazda has targeted CO₂ emissions of less than 120 g/km for the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 engined model – which has front-wheel-drive, SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission and i-stop fuel-saving technology.

The CX-5 is also the first production model to showcase Mazda’s new design theme, ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’, which was previewed with the Mazda SHINARI and Mazda MINAGI concept cars. Unique themes of the KODO design theme include a prominent new frontal treatment with a bolder Mazda family face and more dynamic styling that is said to convey a ‘strong sense of vitality and agility’. It's a shame that the styling isn't as bold as the Mazda Kiyora Concept.

Mazda will hold the world premiere of its all-new CX-5 at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on Tuesday 13 September.

The Mazda CX-5 will be progressively introduced to global markets from early 2012.
