Diesel MPVs or 7 Seaters

First place

Renault Grand Scenic Renault Grand Scenic 1.5 dCi 110 Start and Stop 68.9 mpg

The Grand Scenic is a good-looking MPV which is ideal if you occasionally need to carry 7 people or you have lots of kids. The fuel economy on offer is outstanding, helped by standard stop/start.

Second place

Volkswagen Touran Volkswagen Touran 1.6 TDI Bluemotion Tech 61.4 mpg

The Touran is one of the most compact seven seat MPVs. Its secret to the excellent fuel economy is a 1.6 litre common rail diesel engine which produces 104 bhp at 4,400 rpm and 185 lb.ft of torque between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm.

Third place

Ford Grand C-MAX Ford Grand C-MAX 1.6 TDCi Zetec 57.7 mpg

The Grand C-MAX makes it into our 7-seat category by the skin of its teeth. Whilst it does have 7 seats the middle one in the second row is narrower. However this allows a neat trick, as this seat folds up and is stored inside the right hand seat.
