Ford’s turbocharged, direct injection 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine goes on sale across the Ford Focus range in the UK next month, offering up to 58.9 mpg and CO₂ emissions as low as 109 g/km.

Audi has launched the biturbo V6 TDI engine, with a 0-62 mph time of 5.1 seconds yet also returning up to 44.1 mpg, in the A6 Saloon, Avant, allroad and A7 Sportback ranges – all with the quattro four-wheel drive system.

The Subaru XV crossover, in 2.0 diesel guise, offers fuel economy of 50.4 mpg with emissions of 146 g/km CO₂. 

The new Renault Twingo is now on sale in the UK, and powered by the 1.2 16V 75 engine, returns 55.4 mpg with 119 g/km CO₂ emissions, resulting in zero road fund licence for the first year.

Diesel engines and 44.8 mpg come to BMW M cars with the new BMW M550d xDrive Saloon, BMW M550d xDrive Touring, BMW X5 M50d and BMW X6 M50d.

The revised SEAT Ibiza has been revealed, including the Ibiza E Ecomotive with emissions of just 89 g/km CO₂.

The Vauxhall Mokka will be the company’s first small SUV and it will be available with two petrol engines and one diesel, all with Start/Stop, and front or all-wheel drive.

The new Ford Mondeo has been revealed in the shape of the American Ford Fusion and it will offer petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.

The Renault Megane has been revised for 2012 and it includes three new petrol engines, and a diesel capable of 80.7 mpg.

The new Kia Optima, capable of 57.6 mpg and 128 g/km CO₂, goes on sale in the UK from 1 February in a diesel-only company car targeted range.
