The BMW 3 Series has been the benchmark small premium saloon for years. The latest weapon in the 3 Series’ arsenal is the deployment of BMW’s technology to improve fuel consumption known collectively as EfficientDynamics. This includes start/stop which removes engine idling, improved aerodynamics, capturing energy that would otherwise be lost when braking, and removing parasitic loads from the engine.

This means that the 3 Series has lower CO2 emissions than many superminis whilst also being able to reach 62 mph in a shade over 9 seconds, and without sacrificing any of the agility, refinement or practicality that you would expect from a premium saloon. The 3 Series is also great to drive with its 50:50 weight distribution and rear wheel drive chassis combining with communicative steering.
